JCR Committee Positions

Nominations are open NOW for three positions on the JCR Committee 2017 – Vice President, Access Officer and Secretary.

The sign up sheet for nominations is in the JCR, and you will need a proposer and a seconder to support you when you sign up for any of these roles. Nominations will remain open until midnight on Sunday 19th February, and voting will then take place on Tuesday 21st February.

Some brief info about each role is below, but if you have further questions you can always get in touch with either myself or the current officer (CamiDs given below):

Vice President (Aryan Sabir – aos27):

Acting as deputy for the JCR President, and attending college meetings, such as College Council, with or in place of the President.

Organising Freshers’ week, with the help of the JCR Committee.

Working with the Ents Officer to organise college ents.

Access Officer (Kiran Joshi – kj322):

Regular meetings with the Senior Tutor and Admissions Tutor, to provide feedback and ideas for college access schemes.

Organising/helping to run college access events such as the Shadowing Scheme and Open Days/Offer Holder’s Days.

Co-ordinating access projects such as the production of an alternative prospectus.

Secretary (Niamh Walsh – nfw23):

Arranging JCR Committee meetings, and taking minutes during meetings.

Acting as the JCRs representative at CUSU Council and CUSU meetings, alongside the President.

Maintaining the JCR noticeboards.

Charity Bar Quiz

Get down to the bar tonight at 7.30 for the second bar quiz of Lent Term in the SJC Bar Quiz League!

£1 entry per person as always – all proceeds will go to our amazing college charity, Jimmy’s, which provides help for the homeless in Cambridge. Entry can now be paid by cash or by Tilting the JCR, search ‘St. Johns College JCR’ on Tilt to find us.

There’s a small prize for the winning team in the night, and the team which tops the bar quiz league at the end of term will win a bar tab for every member of the team!

Funkytown Ent!

On Saturday John’s Ents are back for our second event of term, and we are taking you back to the 60s and 70s with our Funkytown Theme!

  • Free beer pong from 9-10:30pm
  • Drinks all £2 or two for £3
  • £1 entry

  • Inflatable guitars, afro wigs and more…
For the first time ever, alongside cash and card, the JCR is offering the option to pay for your entry and drinks using Tilt!
You can find the JCR on Tilt by searching for ‘St. John’s College JCR’.
We’re also giving you the option to pay for your entry in advance using Tilt, and if you Tilt the JCR £1 with the reference of ‘Funkytown Entry’ before midday on Saturday then we will deliver an ents wristband to your pigeon hole and give you a free drink when you arrive at the ent!

Café Synthetique is the monthly meetup for the Cambridge synthetic biology community with informal talks, discussion and pub snacks.
