Dear
Johnians

Do
you like shouting at people?  Do you want to be involved in one of the
most popular sports in Cambridge?  Are you forever wishing you were
taller?  Then your Boat Club needs you!  (Shortness not essential.)

If
you were thinking about coxing for Lady Margaret Boat Club (the John’s rowing
club), but thought you’d missed your chance, it’s not too late to sign
up!  As the person in charge of steering the boat and telling the rowers
what to do, the cox’s role is the most exciting one in the boat when it comes
to races.  The club has a warm and friendly atmosphere and our BCD (Boat
Club Dinner) is the perfect way to finish each term.  Besides, as that
centuries-old Cantabrigian proverb goes, “you get used to the early
mornings, it’s a good way to make friends and a great form of exercise.”

If
you’re interested or want to find out more, we would love to take you on and
teach you all you need to know, so get in touch with Jamie Bailey (jab288) or
Sophie Compton (smc216) via Facebook or email.

Hope
to see you soon!

Best
wishes

Jamie
and Sophie

Win £100 Amazon voucher – spare 5 min to do an online test to explore your underlying beliefs about personality traits in different professions

My name is Yishu Qin and I am a PhD student from the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge. My PhD project (in cooperation with Project Implicit from Harvard University) focuses on how people perceive different majors and whether their perceptions influence their career choices. I was wondering if you could spare 5 minutes to do this online test for my project?

The test itself is as simple as a pairing game and is fun and inspiring. The study is completely anonymous, and the instructions are there when you click on the link. This is a really vital part of my PhD thesis on psychology and education. You will have a chance to win £25 or £100 in amazon vouchers as a reward for participation.

Below is my test link (please use a computer or a laptop, the test requires using keyboard so cannot be run on tablets or phones):

https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/Launch?study=/user/nlofaro/contract.qin.empathy2/manager.expt.xml&refresh=true

I would be very grateful if you could also pass the link to your university friends.

Are you spending the summer in Cambridge and interested

with others in an engaging project? CCN is proud to announce two exciting
summer projects for student consultants to work on.

Become a part of a team that generates high-calibre

A Cambridge startup developed an online professional
community platform to allow like-minded individuals to connect, share ideas,
collaborate on projects, raise funds as well as gain recognition for their
work. CCN will define a market entry strategy that allows the client to grow
the platform to a global community. The project is open to students of all
degrees and subjects.

Project 2: Product Launch – Lighting Devices for the
developing world

An award winning Material Sciences startup has developed a
lighting device that will provide safe, healthy and affordable lighting for the
developing world. Having completed their prototype phase, the startup wants CCN
to undertake a market research campaign to recommend a strategy for their
product launch. The project is open to students of all degrees and subjects but
a background in engineering or finance is beneficial.

The start of the projects is Sunday the 25th of June.

Please be aware that CCN projects last 8-10 weeks, and will
require a commitment of 10 hours per week.
